How we scored it
Ester of decyl alcohol (C10, oleochemical) and palmitic acid (C16, oleochemical); both natural building blocks. 1.0 (supplier note: decanol occasionally petrochemical).
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by esterifying decyl alcohol with palmitic acid, both usually sourced from coconut or palm oil fatty acids. A petrochemical (oxo) decanol is occasionally used instead.
In plain English
A silky skin-conditioning oil made by combining a fatty alcohol with palm oil's palmitic acid. Used to soften skin and improve texture in creams.
Structure
decyl hexadecanoate
