How we scored it
C10 fatty alcohol, within the C8-C22 range assumed oleochemical for cosmetic grade = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Typically derived from coconut or palm kernel oil fatty acids via reduction. A petrochemical (Ziegler or oxo-process) route exists for industrial grades but oleochemical supply dominates cosmetics.
In plain English
A fatty alcohol usually made from coconut or palm kernel oil, occasionally made synthetically. Used as a conditioning ingredient and mild surfactant in cleansers, lotions and fragranced products.
Structure
decan-1-ol
