How we scored it
Steam-distilled volatile oil; constituents (mainly citral as geranial and neral) are all plant-derived: 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dominant route: steam distillation of harvested lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus), grown mainly in India, Guatemala and China. There is no alternative route to the oil itself.
In plain English
Lemongrass essential oil, steam-distilled from the leaves and stems of Cymbopogon citratus. It gives a fresh, lemony scent and is used for fragrance, skin conditioning and flavouring.
CosIng definition: Cymbopogon Citratus Leaf/Stem Oil is the volatile oil obtained from the leaves and stems of Cymbopogon citratus, Poaceae.
