How we scored it
Plant extract: constituents taken from horseradish root (sulfur-containing glucosinolates, sugars, enzymes, other metabolites) are all natural origin (n=1); extraction solvent leaves no mass. 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Roots of horseradish (Cochlearia armoracia, also called Armoracia rusticana) are extracted with water, alcohol or glycol-water and the extract is filtered. No alternative route is significant; any carrier solvent in the commercial grade is declared separately.
In plain English
A plant extract made from horseradish root. It is listed as a fragrance ingredient; the root's sharp, pungent aroma comes from sulfur-containing mustard-oil compounds. It is made only of material taken from the root.
CosIng definition: Cochlearia Armoracia Root Extract is an extract of the roots of the Horseradish, Cochlearia armoracia L., Brassicaceae
