How we scored it
Essential oil of sweet orange, about 95% d-limonene with minor aldehydes and alcohols, all plant-derived (n = 1). Natural mass / total mass = 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dominant feedstock is sweet orange peel, cold-pressed as a by-product of juice production in Brazil and the United States, with a smaller share steam-distilled. No synthetic route exists for the oil.
In plain English
A fragrant oil pressed from the peel of sweet oranges, made up mostly of limonene. It is used in products to add an orange scent. It is a by-product of the orange juice industry, with major supplies from Brazil and the United States.
