How we scored it
Cholesterol 386.65 (natural sterol) + oleic acid 282.47 (natural fatty acid) minus H2O 18.02 = 651.1. Both fragments natural-origin, so 651.1/651.1 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Made by esterifying wool-grease (lanolin) derived cholesterol with oleic acid from a vegetable oil such as sunflower or olive. A plant-sterol bioconversion route to cholesterol is a less common alternative.
In plain English
A skin-conditioning ingredient made by combining a natural sterol from wool grease with oleic acid, a fatty acid from vegetable oil. It helps soften and smooth the skin's surface.
