How we scored it
Ascorbic acid (glucose-fermentation, natural, 1.0) + calcium counter-ion (mineral, natural). Salt of two natural fragments = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Calcium Ascorbate is the calcium salt of ascorbic acid, itself produced by fermentation/conversion of plant-derived glucose. The calcium comes from a mineral source such as limestone.
In plain English
A gentler, less acidic form of vitamin C used as an antioxidant and skin conditioner. It is made by combining vitamin C, produced from plant sugar, with a mineral form of calcium.
Structure
calcium bis((2R)-2-[(1S)-1,2-dihydroxyethyl]-3-hydroxy-5-oxo-2H-furan-4-olate)
