How we scored it
Calcium salt of seaweed alginate; gums and their mineral salts are defined as 1.0 by this site's convention.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Calcium Alginate is made by reacting seaweed-derived sodium alginate with a calcium salt to form an insoluble gel/powder. No synthetic feedstock is used.
In plain English
A thickening and film-forming gum made by combining seaweed-derived alginate with calcium, a mineral.
