How we scored it
Fermentation product of a natural substrate; this site's convention = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Produced by fermenting a nutrient broth with Bifidobacterium longum bacteria, then extracting the resulting product. No synthetic route exists; the process is inherently biological.
In plain English
A skin-conditioning, moisture-binding ingredient made by fermenting a nutrient broth with beneficial bacteria naturally found in the gut. It's a fermentation product, not a synthetic chemical.
