How we scored it
Ascorbic acid (from glucose) esterified to hyaluronic acid (fermentation); condensation water lost; no petrochemical atoms. 1.00.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Dominant route esterifies fermentation-derived hyaluronic acid with ascorbic acid made from glucose by the Reichstein or two-step fermentation process. Hyaluronic acid extracted from rooster comb is a minor, equally natural alternative.
In plain English
Vitamin C chemically attached to hyaluronic acid, a long sugar-based molecule that binds water. It is used as a vitamin C derivative in skin-care products. Hyaluronic acid is made by fermentation and vitamin C from glucose.
CosIng definition: Ascorbyl Hyaluronate is the product obtained by esterification of Hyaluronic Acid with Ascorbic Acid .
