How we scored it
Extract of Acmella oleracea aerial parts; all constituents (including the alkylamide spilanthol) are plant-derived (n=1); solvent leaves no mass. 1 / 1 = 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Aerial parts of cultivated Acmella oleracea (paracress or toothache plant) are extracted with water, alcohol or a glycol and concentrated. No synthetic route exists for the extract; any carrier solvent is declared separately on the INCI.
In plain English
An extract of the above-ground parts of the paracress plant, used in skincare as a skin-protecting ingredient. It is made by steeping the plant in a solvent and concentrating the liquid.
CosIng definition: Acmella Oleracea Extract is the extract of the aerial parts of Acmella oleracea, Asteraceae
