How we scored it
Hexaglycerol (condensed glycerin, water lost, no petrochemical mass added) diesterified with stearic acid; both natural building blocks give 1.0.
What counts. ISO 16128-2 scores the atoms that remain in the final ingredient. Reagents, solvents, catalysts and protecting groups used during manufacture leave no mass behind and are not counted.
Where it comes from
Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate is made by first polymerising glycerin into hexaglycerol, then esterifying it with stearic acid from vegetable or animal fat. Both feedstocks are natural-origin.
In plain English
An emulsifier made from plant glycerin linked together and combined with stearic acid, a fatty acid from vegetable fat. It helps blend oil and water in creams.
CosIng definition: diester of hexaglycerol and stearic acid
Structure
[2-hydroxy-3-[2-hydroxy-3-(2-hydroxy-3-octadecanoyloxypropoxy)propoxy]propyl] octadecanoate
